Peace and Conflict
In this unit of English, Art and Individuals and Society, our unit was Peace and Conflict. In this unit, we explored a conflict and represented them in the three different subjects. Throughout the unit, we had to keep a process journal. In this journal, we had to record the different things we learned throughout the time that we spent on our unit. I found keeping the process journal quite difficult as it was not made fully clear in what form it had to be. At first, we were told that it had to be almost a diary entry then we were told that we had to only show our sources and then we were told to simply to do a bibliography. In the end I simply just recorded the sources I found on my I&S page and simply put the entries we were told to place on our English page, and simply recorded the process of my art piece through pictures and two posts we were told to do. I also found it quite a time-consuming process as it took a while for me to decide what to include and where to incorporate my ideas as they connected with all the subjects. What I liked about the process journal is that we were able to see the links we were making throughout the time of the unit. Though I did not do it in the diary entry form, through the process of OPVL I was able to see the link I was making through the subjects, in the sense of how art and literature had an effect on our given conflicts. It was also a helpful way of organising the information we had gathered in a structured way but still showing the connections we made.
Now that we are finished with the unit we are able to see our finished work and are able to get a better perspective on it. I feel that I have accomplished a lot in this unit, both personally and academically. In general, I would consider myself to be quite unorganised, I feel that throughout the unit I was not very organised with my I&S. I feel that this because I found it difficult to focus on one topic for so long in so many subjects. I also feel that because my conflict was so long and had so many aspects of it, I found it difficult to narrow my field and Because of that, I also spent a lot of time searching for general information and not specific sources. On the other hand, I am proud that in the end, I was able to finish my work to a standard that I am satisfied with before the dead line. I did however find it easier to stick to the deadline when it came to the subjects art and english. I think this is because every week and lesson we had more of an idea of what to do and it differed more every lesson which helped keep it more exciting. When I was making my art project I found it quite hard to make my own decisions. I belive this is because I was not a particularly active student in art in the years before and therefore I find it hard to actually apply skills aswell as the fact that I am an in decisive person. I am proud of how far I came with my art project though considering I feel that I never had a real vision of what it would look like. I am also proud that in the end I was able to finish it a bit before the deadline and was actually able to work at what I would consider a decent pace. As for English, I feel that we covered a lot within this unit. We started of by looking at different pieces of literature about conflict and then we started look at social experiments and then looked further in-depth of how conflicts effected literature in our presentations. I feel that overall I was happy with my presentation, I just feel that it could have been more detailed. I would say that I was relatively organized during the english part of this unit, I handed in all my tasks, I feel that the hardest part of it was seeing the multiple different perspectives and trying to see how they fit together.
Overall I am happy with the work I was able to produce throughout this unit. I feel that I did not realise how much of a time-consuming process this was and that I could have managed my time better. I am happy of the work I achieved but I feel that I could have taken it more seriously from the beginning instead of only working hard towards the end, which could have resulted in better time management and better quality of work. I feel that on the next IDU and schoolwork in general, I will try to keep better time management and try being more independent.

This week in English we watched a movie called Schindler's List in order to explore the theme of conflict. The movie is about a German business man and SS officer named Oskar Schindler. So far in the movie Schindler wants to make a factory making pots and pan by exploiting Jews. In the movie Schindler seems to be a man that everybody likes. All women want him, all men want to be like him and everybody wants to be on his good side. He could be described as being very debonair. Schindler's main motivation to of creating and running his new company is to be remembered as a great business man. He wants to do better than people before him and be someone that people in the future strive to be. At this point ethics and morals don't matter to him. He is very gluttonous. He has a large appetite for money and women. He wants the finer things in life like champagne and nice suites and at this point he doesn't care about what happens to the Jewish workers, and is ignorant to what truly happens behind the money.

Long ago, before the recollection of time, we all existed. We were all born humans, some of us pale others not, some of us blonde, some brunette. Some male, some female, however this was totally disregarded. Time went on and we all segregated. Some separated by oceans others rivers. Fear and gluttony built inside us wanting more at any extent. We became our own countries, nations, cultures, our own people. Fear and ignorance ruled us. Some us had luxuries; money, food, shelter and safety. Things people have literally killed for. Some have little, other have nothing, yet our backs are turned because we are somehow no longer equal. We pick and choose our battles and decide the fate of others, when it is not ours to choose. They're the battles we choose to fight to to fight to benefit our selves, and the ones we choose to acknowledge. Mother, son, husbands and daughters are separated by distance or death. Ur we still managed to convince ourselves that this is how the world functions, though we all are too afraid to see what must be done to combat this. So many of us say "we accept everyone" until we are actually tested on our morals. Others are against it. They say they take what's theirs, but when did we all stop being humans, with rights, dignity and treating each other with mutual respect.
